The Abandoned (2006)

Anastasia Hille is an adopted single mother headed to Russia to discover her Ruskie roots (and get spooked until she's shaking in her boots) in The Abandoned (2006), a horror flick with a few metaphysical twists. Told that she's inherited a family estate deep in the woods of nowheresville, Ana heads out to the out-of-the-way place to try to learn more about her long-dead birth mother, who was stabbed when Ana was still in swaddling clothes. But the man she's hitched a ride from disappears, and suddenly she's all by her lonesome in the gruesome old homestead, which just happens to be haunted by a white-eyed fantasm that looks exactly like Ana herself. As if that weren't rough enough stuff, Ana then comes upon cryptic Karel Roden, who claims to be her twin brother. The Ana-wannabe spook, he says, is a projection of what she'll look like when she's six feet under. He knows a thing or two about this ghostly how-do-you-do, because he has a doppelganger too!
