A one-time member of Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s entourage, director Uwe Boll continues his foray into depraved cult cinema with the crime thriller Sanctimony (2000). B-movie bad boy Eric Roberts stars as a monstrous serial killer with a penchant for removing the eyes, ears, and tongues of his squirming victims. It’s up to a male-female detective team (Michael Paré and Jennifer Rubin) to crack the case before Julia’s evil brother can strike again. As usual, Boll’s not squeamish about portraying blood, guts, or straight-up skin. Co-starlets Crystal Lowe and Tanja Reichert serve up the goods as victims of the demented killer’s latest spree.
