Poolman (2024)

Chris Pine co-wrote, directed, and stars in this mystery comedy as the titular chlorine warrior - Darren Barrenman, a chatty, bushy-bearded Lebowski-type who lives in a trailer in the Tahitian Tiki motel-turned-apartment complex parking lot. His real labor of love though is a documentary about his fight for the historic preservation of Los Angeles that’s pitted him against Stephen Tobolowsky and the rest of the city council. It’s this obsession that gets the attention of the mysterious June (DeWanda Wise), who turns him on to the councilman’s secretive dealings concerning a potential housing project, ultimately pulling him from his comfort zone and into a tangled web of corruption involving some dangerous, powerful folks when Darren decides to play detective. Also along for this ride are Jennifer Jason Leigh as his girlfriend Susan, and Danny Devito and Annette Bening as Darren’s parents. At one point, the camera gets up close and personal with Annette’s cleavage as she swims around underwater. Every pool should have floaties that fabulous on hand!
