Based on E. L. Doctorow’s novel The Book of Daniel, Sidney Lumet’s Daniel (1983) is a fictionalized account of the story of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, executed in 1953 after they were convicted of conspiring to give nuclear secrets to the Soviets. The story is told through the eyes of their son Daniel, writing his graduate thesis during the turbulent ’60s. There’s no nudity here, but Amanda Plummer shows her undie-clad bummer in a mental hospital.
