William S. Burroughs wrote some books and shot his wife dead in the head--and got away with it. They used to play a drinking game called William Tell where he would shoot an apple off her head, and the authorities bought it. Beat (2000) is the story leading up to that, with the Queen of Grunge, Courtney Love, as the Beat Generation's martyred mama. Allen Ginsberg comes down to Mexico to convince Courtney to leave Burroughs's boy-pecker-filled behind. Instead, she sleeps with his butt-buddy and flashes some quick tit before bidding the scribblers ado. And the rest is herstory. Talk about getting beat.
