You probably think you've seen Above Suspicion (2019) if for no other reason than the title's utter lack of distinction. It sounds like it might have been a Shannon Tweed DTV movie from 1992 and it also sounds like it was definitely a middling thriller from several years later starring Gene Hackman, Monica Bellucci, and Morgan Freeman. But no, it's none of those things. Above Suspicion comes to us from Philip Noyce, director of Sliver (1993), and is based on a true story of murder, sex, and corruption deep in the Appalachian mountains. Newly minted FBI superstar Mark Putnam (Jack Huston) moves with his wife Kathy (Sophie Lowe) to Kentucky where he is going to spearhead an operation to take down a local meth king known as Cash (Johnny Knoxville). He is immediately drawn in by a local woman named Susan Smith (Emilia Clarke) who seems to be connected to just about every illegal activity and criminal in town, eventually beginning a torrid and illicit affair with her that burns so bright, it threatens to burn down Mark's entire life in the bargain! Check out the true story of Susan Smith and Mark Putnam some time, the movie obviously sensationalized it all a bit, but it's definitely got a solidly salacious foundation in reality! Emilia Clarke has been moving steadily away from nudity as she's gotten further and further from Game of Thrones, and there's no return to nude form here. There is a steamy sex scene with no nudity, along with two cleavage baring scenes—one of which is rather disturbing—but nothing in the way of nudity. We don't blame you for checking this one out, though, as nothing Emilia does is Above Suspicion... of featuring skin!
