The Toxic Avenger (1984)

The legend of Troma Studios, who would go on to make low budget, low brow classics like Class of Nuke 'Em High (1986) and Dead Dudes in the House (1991), was built upon the ultraviolent, incredibly gross comedy/actioner The Toxic Avenger (1985). No, it's not the story of Brie Larson's social media account, it's a darker, more adult spin on the "dweeb becomes a superhuman beast and gets revenge on his bullies" tale. Mark Torgl is Melvin, a nerdy janitor who works at a gym where the beefy clientele bully him relentlessly. After killing a kid with their car, his tormentors chase Melvin around, demean him, and eventually toss him into a vat of toxic waste. Melvin's time in the toxic stuff turns him into a grotesque but incredibly strong mutant, who becomes known for taking on the criminals and bad guys of Troma, New Jersey when he's not living in the junkyard home he built after terrifying his mom. He even pulls a Mask (1985) and grabs himself a hot, blind babe (Andree Maranda) for a girlfriend after rescuing her from some hooligans. But while things go well at first, trouble arises when the town's crooked mayor (Pat Ryan Jr.) isn't happy about what the avenger has done to the criminals he was getting paid off by. Soon enough, he's vowed to take the Toxic Avenger down using all the means at his disposal. While the Toxic Avenger might be gnarly to look at, there's plenty of eye candy in this first in what would become a first in a four film franchise, flick. Cindy Manion plays a gym-goer who convinces Melvin to put on a pink tutu, by taking her bikini off and telling him that dudes in tutus are super hot. We'd put on a tutu to see those tatas every time! Jennifer Babtist is another woman at the gym who takes her top off, both in the sauna and while riding a dude in the locker room.
