If you want to get to know Australian actress Karen Colston, you should know who Jane Campion is. Jane is an Oscar-winning writer and director who hails from New Zealand, but hangs out in Australia. Both Karen and Jane made their first big feature-film debut with Sweetie (1989); Jane wrote and directed it, and Karen starred in it (naked!) as the character Kay. The little film became a big surprise, and launched Jane into the Hollywood hemisphere with noms and wins all over the world—and she took Karen with her. The two would collaborate time and time again on both the big screen and the little screen. The next big project for both was The Piano (1993), with Karen playing Bluebeard’s wife, and the film garnering three Oscars—one for Jane, one for star Holly Hunter, and one for Anna Paquin, aged 11, in one of her first-ever roles.
