Based on Raymond Carver's short story "So Much Water So Close To Home," Jindabyne (2006) stars Gabriel Byrne as a retired Irishman living in the town of Jindabyne in Australia's New South Wales. The old Jindabyne went Jinda-bye in the ’60s, when the whole town was relocated as part of a water-diversion project—the site of the old town is now a lake bottom on the edge of town. Weird things are always bubbling up to the surface in Jindabyne, like the alarm clock Gabe catches on his fishing trip with his son. But when he and three buddies head out to a secluded river spot for a lazy fishing weekend, they find something even more alarming: the body of a young Aboriginal lass just a-floating in the water. Even more alarming is their decision to tie the corpse to the shore so that her deadness doesn't spoil their trip. The guys notify the authorities only once the weekend is through, creating havoc in the community and in the heart of Gabe's babe, Laura Linney, who starts to wonder what kind of man she married.
